The Hill’s 12:30 Report: Cruz jokes about hitting Trump with car | How the nuke summit is affecting DC | Chipotle but for burgers | Trump’s road to 1,237
HAPPY NUCLEAR SUMMIT DAY!: Via The Hill’s Jordan Fabian, President Obama is set to meet with the leaders of China, Japan and South Korea at a nuclear security summit in D.C. today and Friday, attended by dozens of world leaders. A theme: President Obama has stressed the importance of curbing North Korea’s nuclear ambitions. http://bit.ly/1UuTXSc
Note: the Mount Vernon Square Metro stop will be closed all day for the summit. Here’s what to expect traffic-wise from The Washington Post http://wapo.st/1VatB6E, and here are some photos of security outside the summit, via PoPville. http://bit.ly/1WZSm4z
Happy Friday Eve! The Metro is threatening to shut down entire lines for an extended period of time for repairs (?!), so get those Capitol bike share memberships ready! *rolls eyes* I’m Cate Martel with a quick recap of what you missed this morning — and what’s on tap for the rest of the day. Send comments, story ideas and happy thoughts to cmartel@digital-staging.thehill.com, @CateMartel and on Facebook.
SO REAL TALK — HOW IS TRUMP GETTING 1,237 DELEGATES?: Via The Hill’s Jonathan Easley, Donald Trump currently has 736 delegates. He needs 501 more to reach 1,237, which is needed for the nomination. When will we know: A third of the remaining delegates will be awarded in contests on June 7. It’s unlikely a candidate reaches 1,237 before the June 7 contests. Odds of Trump getting there: Getting slimmer by the day; Trump faces trouble, with Ted Cruz favored to win a majority of the five remaining winner-take-all states. Contested convention, here we come! Here are the key races that will determine Trump’s fate: http://bit.ly/1RPxwqt
PLEDGE? WHAT PLEDGE? OH, YOU THOUGHT I WAS SERIOUS ABOUT THAT!: Via The Hill’s Jesse Byrnes, Donald Trump, Ted Cruz and John Kasich have all backed away from their pledge to support the party’s eventual nominee. What this means: It foreshadows a convention fight — and a party split into warring factions beyond. http://bit.ly/1oo0rUA
{mosads}FIRE STORM DU JOUR — TRUMP’S ABORTION COMMENTS: Donald Trump sparked a firestorm on Wednesday when he said women should be punished for getting abortions if the procedure were illegal. What’s impressive about this: Trump managed to anger not only pro-abortion activists, but anti-abortion activists as well. Good job bringing both sides together! http://bit.ly/1RPxOO9
LOVE ME, CONGRESS: Via The Hill’s Cristina Marcos, Donald Trump is stepping up efforts to persuade the Washington GOP establishment to rally around him after months without a single congressional endorsement. How: He is establishing an outreach initiative aimed at Republican House members, with Reps. Chris Collins (R-N.Y.) and Duncan Hunter (R-Calif.) as co-chairs. The two were the first to endorse him earlier this month. http://bit.ly/1RPKZi7
MOVES ON CAPITOL HILL: Via Roll Call’s Niels Lesniewski, Republican Sen. Jerry Moran‘s communications director, Garrette Turner, is leaving the Capitol after more than a decade to spend time with family because her mother is ill. Katie Niederee, a Kansas native who’s been Moran’s press secretary, will succeed her. http://bit.ly/1TkOuMu
HA HA, I’M GOING TO RUN OVER YOU WITH A CAR! *CRICKETS*: On “Jimmy Kimmel Live,” Ted Cruz joked about running over Republican rival Donald Trump with a car. “If I were in my car and getting ready to reverse and saw Donald in the backup camera, I’m not confident which pedal I’d push.” Cue laughter screeching to a halt. http://bit.ly/1PHxEAC
TRENDING ON SOCIAL — SANDERS NOT ON THE D.C. BALLOT: Bernie Sanders is not yet on the D.C. ballot because of a registration error by the local Democratic Party. How did they let that happen? The D.C. Democratic Party was required to file to the D.C. Board of Elections by March 16, but submitted the registration paperwork for Sanders a day late. D.C. Dems vote on June 14. http://bit.ly/234LRRQ
AHH, A GRAMMAR NERD. I LIKE IT.: Missouri state Rep. Tracy McCreery (D) offered a resolution in the House saying she would really love it if her colleagues would stop saying the word “physical” when they mean “fiscal.” I get it, Tracy. That would drive me nuts, too. http://wapo.st/1M36WaZ
