The Hill’s 12:30 Report: Trump’s change of heart on protests | Fight brews for DNC chair | How Trump could start dismantling ObamaCare | Five unanswered questions after Trump upset | Face-planting fox
IN THE WORDS OF KATY PERRY: “YOU’RE HOT THEN YOU’RE COLD. YOU’RE YES THEN YOU’RE NO…”: President-elect Donald Trump has had a change of heart over the protesters taking to the streets over his election. It’s amazing what nine hours of sleep can do to change your opinion! Anyway, his before/after has been getting a lot of traction this morning:
Trump at 9:19 p.m., Thursday: “Just had a very open and successful presidential election. Now professional protesters, incited by the media, are protesting. Very unfair!” http://bit.ly/2g2JoYK
Trump at 6:14 a.m., Friday: “Love the fact that the small groups of protesters last night have passion for our great country. We will all come together and be proud!” http://bit.ly/2fiPROj

NEWS OF THE MORNING — NEXT DEM FIGHT: Sen. Charles Schumer (N.Y.), who is set to be the next leader of Senate Democrats, is reportedly backing Rep. Keith Ellison (D-Minn.) to serve as chairman of the Democratic National Committee. Good spot for Ellison: Sens. Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.) and Elizabeth Warren (D-Mass.) have both shown support for Ellison. http://bit.ly/2fqDGwr
ALSO THIS MORNING — O’Malley may also be in the mix: http://bit.ly/2fJpsb0
Who else is running: Howard Dean has announced he is running for DNC chair, as well. BYAAAAAAAAH! http://bit.ly/2fqR17S
Context from Politico’s Gabriel Debenedetti: “More soon on this, but if you think the race for DNC chair is over because Schumer and Bernie agree on Ellison, think again.” http://bit.ly/2fICFkl
NEW THIS MORNING — NOT TO GET INVOLVED OR ANYTHING, BUT…: Via CNN, Speaker Paul Ryan (R-Wis.) and Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.)reportedly both told Donald Trump that RNC Chairman Reince Priebus is their pick for White House chief of staff. Who else is being considered: Trump’s campaign chief, Steve Bannon. http://bit.ly/2fI2Mdm
THIS MAGAZINE COVER IS THE TALK OF TWITTER: Der Spiegel’s cover on Trump’s win: “Das Ende Der Weld.” The cover is pretty startling. http://bit.ly/2g2znLb
WE. NEED. ANSWERS.: There are still several unanswered questions about the massive Election Day upset. Basically: What the? How the? But…? http://bit.ly/2fI4nMv
- What happened to Democratic turnout?
- Why was there no Hispanic surge against Trump?
- How big a factor was FBI Director James Comey?
- Did sexism doom Clinton?
- Did Trump actually help the GOP down-ballot?
MUST READ — HOW OBAMACARE COULD BE DISMANTLED, REALISTICALLY: Via The Hill’s Peter Sullivan, Trump could not completely dismantle ObamaCare on his first day in office, but here’s what he can do: Immediately cancel “cost-sharing reductions.” What this means: http://bit.ly/2fqBllc
WHAT POETIC TIMING: The New York Times published a review of Fox News anchor Megyn Kelly‘s new book, which will be published on Nov. 15. Now here’s the problem: The review alleges that Kelly implied Trump had a debate question early. The book also implies that Kelly thought she may have been poisoned the morning of that same debate. http://nyti.ms/2fiNwCV Kelly disputes these claims. She tweeted:
“For the record, my book ‘Settle for More’ does not suggest Trump had any debate Qs in advance, nor do I believe that he did.” http://bit.ly/2fWUKP9
“Also for the record, I believe the reason I got sick the day of the first debate was I contracted a stomach virus, just as Rand Paul did.” http://bit.ly/2eZdkRu
ONE LESS UNKNOWN — ROUGHLY ONE DOWN, 8,738 TO GO!: Via CNN’s Barbara Starr, Trump has said he may order the waterbordering of a terrorism suspect — a practice that has been deemed illegal. A question on everyone’s minds is what will the military do if Trump gives an illegal order. Here’s our answer: “Pentagon Press Secretary Peter Cook noted on Thursday that all US troops have an obligation not to follow illegal orders.” http://cnn.it/2eJRj8k
