DC institutions offer myriad options for further education

American University

American University offers dozens of different programs for graduate studies. Popular ones include political science and communication. There’s also a master’s in public administration that students can enroll in, which prepares students for leadership positions in public service and related organizations.

Bowie State University

The College of Professional Studies is comprised of four academic departments: Behavioral Sciences and Human Services; Nursing; Psychology; and Social Work. Georgetown University

Georgetown University’s Center for Continuing & Professional Education programs are designed for business and government managers, career changers and entrepreneurs. The Center offers programs in business, finance, marketing and policy as well as leadership development and coaching programs through the Institute for Transformational Leadership. The George Washington University College of Professional Studies

The programs of the College of Professional Studies (CPS) are designed with the requirements of adult learners and working professionals in mind. CPS offers undergraduate and graduate programs that address the competency requirements of adults working in emerging and rapidly changing professions. The college’s innovative programs are typically co-developed through collaboration among university content specialists and outside partners, including government agencies, professional associations, consulting organizations and business and industry leaders.


The Catholic University of America

Catholic University is home to many master’s and doctorate programs as well as a popular law school. CUA offers 130 degrees in more than 50 programs through 12 different academic schools and offers certification programs as well. The continuing education program is designed to offer librarians, archivists and information specialists the opportunity to update and expand their professional competencies and skills. 

University of Maryland Office of Extended Studies

The Office of Extended Studies provides campus units and non-University of Maryland affiliated organizations the opportunity to offer University of Maryland Continuing Education Units (CEUs) as an added value to employee development. The CEU is a nationally recognized measure of participation in an approved non-credit continuing education program. Professionals who successfully complete approved programs are awarded a certificate for University of Maryland CEUs.
