Former Trump aide on tweet: ‘I made a mistake’

A former Donald Trump aide on Thursday admitted he made a mistake in taking to Twitter to celebrate campaign manager Corey Lewandowski’s firing.

“I made a mistake on Monday. Mr. Trump didn’t,” Michael Caputo told CNN.

{mosads}Caputo said he still completely supports Trump, the presumptive GOP presidential nominee, despite resigning from the campaign.

On Monday, Caputo tweeted “Ding dong the witch is dead!” after news surfaced that Lewandowski had been removed. Caputo left the campaign shortly after.

“I’m a very big fan of Wizard of Oz and I was just thinking about that movie,” Caputo said jokingly when asked what he meant by his tweet.

He then clarified, saying he was driving to Cleveland when he heard the news.

“Somebody called me and said, he’s been fired, and I reacted,” Caputo said.

“I put my phone down, and by the time I got to Cleveland, the world had changed for me.”

In a presidential election, senior aides can’t make “stupid mistakes,” he said.

“It was supposed to be funny. It wasn’t funny,” Caputo said. “I didn’t treat my candidate with the respect that he deserves.”
