Hillary Clinton in an op-ed published Friday in a prominent Arizona newspaper said criticized Donald Trump for blaming immigrants for America’s social ills.
The Arizona Republic published the op-ed one day after a new poll showed Clinton with a lead in the state, which has been reliably Republican in presidential elections.
“Just this week, the Supreme Court deadlocked in a critical case, putting on hold executive actions taken by President Obama to provide immigrant families relief from deportation,” she wrote. “It was heartbreaking and unacceptable.
{mosads}“And while our system fails to provide certainty for many immigrant families, political figures like Donald Trump turn them into scapegoats for many of the challenges facing American families today.
“His bigotry and fear-mongering may be an attempt to divide our country and distract us from his lack of real solutions to raise incomes and create good paying jobs – but it’s not going to work.”
The likely Democratic nominee added she would quickly address immigration laws should she win the presidency.
“I’ll fight for comprehensive immigration reform that includes a path to full and equal citizenship, starting my first 100 days in office,” she said.
The poll released Thursday found Clinton leading Trump by 4.3 points in Arizona.
