Dems mull moving Clinton acceptance speech to bigger venue: report

Democrats are considering moving Hillary Clinton’s speech in which she’ll accept the Democratic presidential nomination to a larger venue in Philadelphia.

{mosads}Her speech at the Democratic National Convention is scheduled for the Wells Fargo Center on July 28, but Rep. Robert Brady (D-Pa.) said “there’s talk about” changing locations, according to Billy Penn, a Philadelphia-based online media outlet.

“It’s a good idea by the way, too,” said Brady, who represents the Philadelphia area and is the convention’s honorary vice chairman. “It engages people and gets people involved.”

“When you make an acceptance speech, if you make it at the Wells Fargo Center, you’re preaching to the choir, I’d imagine.”

Brady noted that President Obama’s 2008 acceptance speech was moved to a larger venue in Denver, where an estimated 84,000 attended.

The Wells Fargo Center has 19,500 seats, but Billy Penn noted that other Philadelphia venues can accommodate much larger crowds, like the stadiums where the Phillies and Eagles play.

But Morgan Finkelstein, deputy press secretary for the convention denied talk of moving anything at the convention.

“This is absolutely incorrect. There is no talk of changing venue. The Convention will take place in the Well Fargo Arena from Monday through Thursday and any speculation to the contrary is misinformed.”

Clinton will officially become the Democratic nominee at the July 25–28 event. But Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.) remains in the Democratic race, saying he’ll go all the way to the convention to help craft the party’s platform.
