Trump campaign vetting Chris Christie for VP: reports

The Donald Trump campaign is vetting New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie (R) as a potential running mate for the presumptive presidential nominee, according to multiple reports.

{mosads}Those with knowledge of the process told The New York Times on Thursday that Christie is among those being vetted as a possible vice presidential pick for Trump.

And an unnamed source told CNN the governor has received the official paperwork for the vetting process.

Christie backed Trump shortly after ending his own presidential campaign in February and has since followed him on the campaign trail, defended him against critics and been a primary adviser to the campaign.

The governor would play a significant role in the Trump White House, the businessman has previously said, and is leading the campaign’s transition efforts, according to The Times.

Trump has said he will announce his running mate at the Republican National Convention next month in Cleveland.
