The U.S. Department of State condemned the terrorist attack in Baghdad that killed more than 100 Saturday night.
{mosads}”These acts of mass murder are yet another example of Da’esh’s contempt for human life. From Baghdad to Istanbul, Brussels, Dhaka, and Paris, Da’esh terrorists murder the innocent to attract attention and recruits,” the State Department said in a statement, using the Arabic name for the Islamic State in Iraq and Syria (ISIS).
“They will not succeed. We will continue to unite the world against this evil, remove their safe havens in Syria and Iraq, and uproot their global networks. Our partnership with Iraq and its people, who serve on the front-lines of this global fight, remains steadfast and unwavering.”
On Saturday night in central Baghdad a huge bomb exploded, killing at least 123 people.
The Sunni extremists of ISIS immediately claimed responsibility, saying it had killed a gathering of Shiite Muslims.
“We are in close contact with Iraqi authorities, and stand committed to supporting Iraqi Security forces as they take the fight to Da’esh strongholds, and bring all responsible for these terrible crimes to justice,” the State Department said.
The bombing came after an attack on a restaurant in Bangladesh that left 20 people dead, for which ISIS also claimed responsibility.
