Rep. Xavier Becerra (R-N.Y.), who is thought to be in contention to be Hillary Clinton’s vice presidential partner, said her email controversy is something that “we can all learn from.”
“And I mean you and me and every single one of us that’s trying to figure out technology and be ahead of it,” Becerra told CNN in an interview on Wednesday.
{mosads}”She showed us that every one of us is human and we have to be very careful, especially if you’re secretary of State and expected to be president of the United States.”
Most Democrats have offered support for Clinton in the wake of the FBI’s decision to not recommend charges over her handling of classified information through her private email system.
Republicans have expressed shock at the decision, arguing charges should have been brought.
Becerra struck a confident note on Clinton’s readiness to serve and her judgment, noting to CNN that she recommended that President Obama carry out the raid into Pakistan that led to the killing of Osama bin Laden.
“I would tell you that when you have someone who was there in the Situation Room telling the president green light the bin Laden raid, which was very dangerous, when you have someone who has a history of working with our most important allies, when you have someone who actually put together the coalition that’s helped stop Iran’s nuclear buildup, you have someone that America can trust,” Becerra said.
“Did she make some mistakes with those emails? She already admitted that she did. She said she would never do that again,” Bercerra said.
