Hours before he is scheduled to grill James Comey about his investigation into Hillary Clinton’s handling of classified material while secretary of State, House Oversight and Government Reform Committee Chairman Jason Chaffetz (R-Utah) blasted the FBI director’s findings.
{mosads}“What are you telling the rest of the people who have classified clearance?” Chaffetz asked on MSNBC’s “Morning Joe.” “You’re telling them, ‘It really doesn’t matter. Do with it what you want.’”
The Utah Republican defended his decision to call on Comey to testify before his committee, saying that the investigation’s findings were troubling.
“The precedent that the FBI director is setting is if you mishandle classified information, there is no consequence,” he said.
“I do think it’s appropriate, now that the case is closed, to have the FBI director come and explain and show us what he saw, because is there something wrong with the statute? Or is it simply a double-standard?”
