The National Rifle Association (NRA) on Thursday endorsed Sen. Marco Rubio’s (R-Fla.) reelection campaign.
“Marco Rubio is a strong advocate for the rights of law-abiding gun owners and sportsmen,” the NRA’s top lobbyist, Chris W. Cox, said in a statement.
{mosads}“He has fought to preserve our Second Amendment freedoms and hunting heritage, and stood strong against President Obama, Hillary Clinton and former New York City billionaire Mayor Michael Bloomberg’s extreme gun-control agenda,” Cox added.
The NRA has given Rubio an A-plus rating.
Rubio announced last month he would run for reelection. He had said during his presidential bid that he did not want to return to the Senate.
Most Republican candidates for Rubio’s seat dropped out after he announced his campaign. Businessman Carlos Beruff is his only remaining primary challenger.
Reps. Patrick Murphy (D-Fla.) and Alan Grayson (D-Fla.) are facing off for the Democratic nomination.
The Florida Republican primary is Aug. 30.
