President Obama called Texas Gov. Greg Abbott Saturday to offer his condolences on behalf of the American people for the five police officers killed in Dallas Thursday night, according to White House pool reports.
{mosads}Obama will visit Dallas early next week, cutting short a trip to Europe. He called Abbott from Air Force One while traveling from Warsaw, Poland, to Madrid, Spain.
Five police officers were killed and seven were wounded by sniper fire Thursday night in an “ambush-style” attack in Dallas, the deadliest attack on police since 9/11.
Obama condemned the shootings as a despicable act in a statement from the NATO Summit in Poland.
“I believe I speak for every single American when I say we are horrified over these events, and we stand united with the people and the police department in Dallas,” Obama said. “Anyone involved in the senseless murders will be held fully accountable. Justice will be done.”
Th e presidenthad previously spoken with Dallas Mayor Mike Rawlings and Police Chief David Brown.
