Obama adviser: ‘Entire criminal justice system’ needs examination

Former Philadelphia Police Commissioner Charles Ramsey on Sunday said the country has made progress in bridging the gap between law enforcement and the communities they serve, but there is still more to do.

“We need to be able to take a comprehensive look at what’s going on in our communities, we need a comprehensive look at the entire criminal justice system,” Ramsey, co-chairman of President Obama’s task force on 21st century policing, said on “Fox News Sunday.”

{mosads}”We need to look at not only the criminal justice system but we need to look at these communities where we have problems with crime and violence and unfortunately a lot of gun crime.”

Ramsey said sensible gun laws can help solve the issue, but the country needs to take a more “comprehensive approach” if it wants to fully solve the problem.

He noted the issue is complicated and there’s not one thing that will fix the problem.

“Certainly there is a gap, there’s no question about that,” he said.

“But this is all fixable.”
