Labor Secretary Thomas Perez on Sunday said presumptive Democratic nominee Hillary Clinton understands she needs to earn back the trust of many people following developments into the controversy over her use of a private email server during her time as secretary of State.
“That hearing was rather interesting this week, because what it really illustrated was exactly what we know, which is, there was no criminal wrongdoing on Secretary Clinton’s part, she made a mistake, she’s acknowledged that,” Perez, rumored to be among the candidates to be Clinton’s running mate, said on “Fox News Sunday.”

Perez said this isn’t the first time Clinton has had to work hard to earn trust. When she ran for the Senate in New York, there were a lot of skeptics, he said.
“Folks in places like upstate New York, where I grew up, she won them over because she was a workhorse, not a show horse,” he said.
Perez praised Clinton for being able to work with many different people, some of whom have differing opinions on issues than she does.
“She looks forward to earning the trust of the American people,” he said.
“The reality is, we’re now in the campaign cycle and she understands that she has to again earn the trust of people.”
The Labor secretary added he often judges a person by what they do when they aren’t in the spotlight.
“Hillary Clinton has spent her entire life breaking down barriers,” he said, praising the former first lady’s experience and temperament.
