Ryan: Clinton’s a ‘liberal progressive’

Speaker Paul Ryan (R-Wis.) says in a new interview that he might have trouble working with Hillary Clinton.

Ryan told Politico that the presumptive Democratic presidential nominee might be too left-wing of a president to find common ground.

{mosads}“I think she is actually a liberal progressive,” he said. “I don’t think she’s faking it. I think she’s a liberal progressive.

“And I think she’s sitting atop a party that’s now run by [Sens.] Bernie Sanders [I-Vt.] and Elizabeth Warren [D-Mass.],” Ryan added. “This is a Hillary Clinton, Elizabeth Warren, Bernie Sanders party.

“Our party has moved right, their party have moved really left. I think the common ground, say that you had in the early 90s when I was here as a staffer is nothing like the common ground you have right now.”

Ryan also said Republican outcry over Clinton’s use of a private email server at the State Department is not politically motivated.

“The motivation here isn’t partisanship,” he said. “The motivation here is you’ve gotta hold people accountable for these actions, otherwise we’re demeaning the whole value of these things.

“The thing that bothers me the most is the double standard that seems to be applied,” Ryan added Clinton. “Shouldn’t she be held to the same standard everybody else is? I worry about the rule of law being equally applied in this country these days.”
