Clinton campaign adds $27 donate option to woo Sanders supporters

A new donate option has appeared on Hillary Clinton’s campaign website to commemorate Bernie Sanders’s endorsement of the presumptive Democratic presidenital nominee on Tuesday: $27.

{mosads}The $27 button is a clear play for Sanders’s army of small-dollar donors, who made his primary campaign an unprecedented grassroots-funded effort.

“We accept $27 donations too, you know,” Clinton said at the end of her remarks at an event with Sanders in New Hampshire.

“A little homage to Senator Sanders and his supporters on http://hillaryclinton.com/donate …,” tweeted Teddy Goff, a digital strategist for the Clinton campaign.

The $27 figure has become so well known — Bernie Sanders used to call out his average campaign contribution at nearly every rally — that comedian Larry David made it part of a skit on “Saturday Night Live.”

A Clinton aide confirmed the new donate button went live on the campaign website Tuesday to coincide with the Sanders endorsement.

Sanders’s digital fundraising manager, Michael Whitney, commemorated the moment Tuesday by tweeting a screenshot of his $27 donation to the Clinton campaign.

“Very nice of [Hillary for America] team to include $27 option on their main donate form,” he added.
