GOP unveils list of speakers for next week’s convention

Donald Trump’s family members, close political associates and several celebrities will be among those speaking at next week’s GOP convention in Cleveland.

{mosads}Republican National Convention CEO Jeff Larson early Thursday released a partial list naming more than 60 individuals including Trump’s wife, Melania, Trump’s four adult children and political figures he’s grown close to during the campaign.

Trump’s children — Eric, Ivanka, Tiffany and Donald Jr. — are on the list, which also includes possible Trump running mates former Speaker Newt Gingrich (Ga.) and Gov. Chris Christie (N.J.) and retired Army Lt. Gen. Michael Flynn.

Indiana Gov. Mike Pence, also rumored to be a finalist to share the GOP ticket with Trump, is not on the list. A prime speaking slot is usually reserved for the vice presidential nominee.

Several speakers have been selected to generate media buzz around the event: Retired astronaut Eileen Collins, the first woman to command a space shuttle, is scheduled to speak. Football star Tim Tebow, who was reported to have a speaking slot, announced Thursday night that he would not be making an appearance.

Billionaire Silicon Valley entrepreneur Peter Thiel, a co-founder of PayPal; real estate investor Tom Barrack; and Las Vegas casino owner Phil Ruffin will represent the tech and business communities.

Several scheduled speakers are expected to focus on the 2012 Benghazi terrorist attacks, which Trump has used to knock Hillary Clinton, who was secretary of State at the time. Mark Geist and John Tiegen were involved in security and survived the attack on the U.S. compound in Libya.

Some of the speakers had already indicated they would appear at the convention, including Sens. Ted Cruz (Texas), Tom Cotton (Ark.), Joni Ernst (Iowa), and Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker. Ben Carson, who has served as a surrogate for Trump after ending his own White House bid, will also speak.

Sen. Jeff Sessions (Ala.), a Trump adviser and early backer, will also speak, as well as former New York Mayor Rudy Giuliani, Speaker Paul Ryan (Wis.), House Majority Leader Kevin McCarthy (Calif.) and Sen. Shelley Moore Capito (W.Va.).

Others include Florida Attorney General Pam Bondi, who clashed on CNN with Anderson Cooper after the Orlando, Fla., mass shooting last month; Colorado GOP Senate candidate Darryl Glenn; and the general manager of the Trump Winery in Virginia, Kerry Woolard.

Rep. Michael McCaul (R-Texas), chairman of the House Homeland Security Committee, is scheduled to take the stage along with Rep. Sean Duffy (Wis.) and Rep. Marsha Blackburn (Tenn.), along with Trump backers Reps. Chris Collins (N.Y.) and Ryan Zinke (Mont.).
