An electronics trade group on Friday called for the GOP presidential ticket to “provide clarity on where it stands on trade.”
Consumer Technology Association (CTA) President Gary Shapiro said he hopes that adding Indiana Gov. Mike Pence to the ticket will “shape Donald Trump’s tech agenda and share his strong advocacy for the Trans-Pacific Partnership (TPP).”
{mosads}”As a long-time supporter of free trade, Gov. Pence has a proven track record of supporting tax policies that spur job creation and draw new businesses to Indiana,” Shapiro added.
“The tech industry hopes that in the coming days, the Trump-Pence campaign will provide clarity on where it stands on trade and when we can expect a detailed and substantive agenda that specifically outlines its positions on technology and innovation issues.”
Donald Trump has been heavily critical of the TPP trade deal. Pence has been a supporter of trade deals in the past.
“A Trump administration will change our failed trade policies, and I mean quickly,” Trump said in June.
“Number one: I am going to withdraw the United States from the Trans-Pacific Partnership that has not yet been ratified,” he said.
