The Hillary Clinton campaign is hitting Donald Trump over his comments about nuclear weapons in a new ad, part of a multimillion-dollar buy in eight swing states.
{mosads}In “Issue,” the presumptive Democratic presidential nominee’s campaign rehashes comments Trump, the presumptive GOP nominee, made in an interview with CNN’s Anderson Cooper about allowing Saudi Arabia and Japan to have nuclear weapons.
“More countries with more nuclear weapons? Hillary Clinton knows that’s the last thing we need,” says the ad’s narrator. “As secretary of State, she negotiated a reduction in nuclear weapons with Russia and worked with both parties to get it passed.”
At his rallies, Trump often accuses Clinton of mischaracterizing his position on the issue, but he has said other countries may be better off if they could defend themselves with nuclear weapons instead of relying on the U.S.
“Can I be honest with you? It’s going to happen anyway,” Trump said in the March interview with Cooper.
“It’s going to happen anyway. It’s only a question of time. They’re going to start having them or we have to get rid of them entirely.”
