A former New York GOP senator is predicting chaos at the Republican National Convention next week.
“Some of the hooligans will be armed, and I think they will look to create real trouble there,” Al D’Amato said in a radio interview with John Catsimatidis Sunday. “So I think you are going to have riotous conditions outside caused by these absolute degenerates who don’t give a darn about the values of this country and are trying to rip us apart.”
{mosads}The GOP is bracing for large-scale protests against presumptive presidential nominee Donald Trump in Cleveland.
“It’s a threat we’re watching very, very carefully,” FBI Director James Comey said.
“Inside the convention it’s going to go all Trump’s way. I think it’s rather pathetic for those who can’t get over their loss. The one guy, [2012 GOP nominee Mitt] Romney, who didn’t have the cojones to run, should be ashamed of himself,” he said. “He did nothing but try to scuttle Trump from the beginning. He’s like a spoiled little kid. … I didn’t know he was a jealous, malevolent person underneath all that guile.”
Romney has been an outspoken of critic of Trump throughout the election process and has said he won’t vote for him come November.
Republican National Committee Chairman Reince Priebus said on Friday that the Never Trump movement within the party is definitively “over,” after the faction could not present a better alternative to Trump.
