RNC chairman on convention: ‘The city is going to be safe’

Republican National Committee (RNC) Chairman Reince Priebus on Sunday said the party’s national convention this week in Cleveland will be safe and secure.

“We’re ready for it. Every convention has its share of problems and protests, and obviously this has been a pretty politically charged environment over the last year and so we’ve taken extra precautions,” Priebus said on “Fox News Sunday.”

“I can assure you that the city is going to be safe and it’s going to be a lot of fun — and it’s beautiful outside, too,” he said.

Priebus said he doesn’t know of any credible security threats against the convention. He also said the convention is in a very good position, noting the location “lends itself to a good place to lock in and secure.”

“I think people are feeling pretty comfortable right now with what’s happening,” he said.
