Presumptive GOP presidential nominee Donald Trump reportedly plans to roll out the names of potential Cabinet members this week after his vice presidential announcement failed to generate the enthusiasm he was hoping for, The Huffington Post reported.
Breitbart News also said Trump will make announcements about his potential Cabinet members during the Republican National Convention in Cleveland.
{mosads}”I think that Trump is going to name a prospective Cabinet, and there is, of course, a way to do this in a way that is perfectly legal,” Trump ally Roger Stone said during an interview set to air Sunday night on the “Aaron Klein Investigative Radio.”
“Because technically, of course, to promise someone a federal job is a crime, so Trump could theoretically say, ‘For CIA director I would appoint Gen. Mike Flynn or someone like him,’ ” he said, according to Breitbart.
Aspects of the unveiling of Gov. Mike Pence as his running mate reportedly frustrated Trump.
He was unable to tell the other top contenders for the position — former Speaker Newt Gingrich (Ga.) and New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie — about his choice before news had leaked, according to The Huffington Post. Reports surfaced on Thursday that Trump was going to choose Pence, ahead of the formal announcement on Friday.
After a terror attack in Nice, France, on Thursday night, Trump postponed the event and instead revealed his decision on Twitter Friday morning.
Several reports have since surfaced that Trump had second thoughts on Thursday night about his decision and tried to get out of it.
According to The Huffington Post, Trump wants to name Christie as attorney general.
Flynn, who was also rumored as a potential vice presidential pick for Trump, is a likely candidate for secretary of Defense.
Stone said Trump would be unlikely to name establishment Republicans as potential Cabinet members.
“You are not going to be looking at a collection of political hacks. You are not going to be looking at the people responsible for the phony Iraq War,” he said, according to Breitbart.
“You are not going to be looking at people who have been part of the last 30 years of policy failures across the board, whether it’s immigration or trade or our fiscal situation. It is time for fresh thinking.”
