Turkish president ‘disillusioned’ with US on Syria

Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan criticized President Obama for not taking the war in Syria seriously in a “60 Minutes” interview airing Sunday, saying U.S. policies have interfered with Turkey’s ability to defend itself.

{mosads}Erdoğan blamed Obama for influx of 3 million Syrian refugees in to Turkey and said the U.S. president’s policies have lead to a security threat on the country’s southern border.

“We have addressed these issues, discussed them with President Obama and Vice President Biden. They failed to rise to the occasion and handle these issues seriously. This is quite upsetting for us,” Erdoğan said on CBS’s “60 Minutes.”

Asked if he was frustrated with the U.S., Erdoğan said he was “disillusioned.” 

“Well, let me be very frank in my remarks and I’ve been known for my candor. I wouldn’t speak the truth if I said I was not disillusioned. Because I am disillusioned.”
