Brazile: Trump’s Supreme Court pick ‘more extreme’ than Scalia

Interim Democratic National Committee (DNC) chairwoman Donna Brazile on Saturday reportedly called President Trump’s Supreme Court nominee Neil Gorsuch “more extreme” than the late Justice Antonin Scalia.

Brazile made the remark at a DNC forum in Detroit, Mich., according to the Washington Examiner. Brazile noted that Gorsuch, 49, “could be on the court for decades.”

Using a study that examined the ideologies of possible Supreme Court nominees, The New York Times ranked Gorsuch as slightly more conservative than Scalia, but not as conservative as Associate Justice Clarence Thomas.

Democratic lawmakers have signaled that Gorsuch may face a difficult confirmation process, as many are still reeling from the Senate GOP’s decision not to hold hearings or a vote on former President Barack Obama’s nominee to the court last year, Merrick Garland.

Brazile on Saturday referred to the seat on the nation’s highest court as “stolen.”
