John McCain’s son deletes tweet slamming Trump’s Putin defense

Sen. John McCain’s (R-Ariz.) son, Jack, deleted a tweet Sunday that appeared to criticize President Donald Trump’s comments on Russian President Vladimir Putin.

“My nation of laws just got compared to one that murders journalists that don’t fall in line and kills political opposition. Awesome……….” the younger McCain wrote on Twitter in a post that was later deleted.

An MSNBC producer saved the tweet in a screenshot.

McCain, a member of the Navy, later tweeted, “I just don’t want to cause a fuss,” apparently in response to the focus on the deleted tweet.

{mosads}Trump, in an interview with Fox News set to air Sunday, said “it’s better to get along with Russia than not.”

When Fox News host Bill O’Reilly stressed to Trump that Putin is “a killer,” Trump responded by saying “there are a lot of killers.”

“There are a lot of killers. We’ve got a lot of killers. What, you think our country is so innocent?”

Vice President Mike Pence on Sunday denied that Trump was equating the United States with Russia.

“I simply don’t accept that there was any moral equivalency in the president’s comments,” Pence told CBS’s “Face the Nation.”

But Sen. Marco Rubio (R-Fla.), a prominent member of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, said Russian President Vladimir Putin’s tactics go far beyond anything seen in the United States and Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell said he doesn’t view Putin the same way as Trump does.
