Earnest: The bigger the scandal, the more outrageous the Trump tweet

Former White House press secretary Josh Earnest on Sunday said President Trump uses his Twitter account to distract from scandals.

“There is one page in the Trump White House crisis management playbook,” Earnest told ABC’s “This Week.” “And that is simply to tweet or say something outrageous to distract from a scandal. And the bigger the scandal, the more outrageous the tweet.”

Trump on Saturday accused former President Obama of wiretapping Trump Tower before the November election but did not provide any evidence of the claim.

Obama, through a spokesman, denied that he or the White House ordered surveillance.

{mosads}”A cardinal rule of the Obama Administration was that no White House official ever interfered with any independent investigation led by the Department of Justice,” spokesman Kevin Lewis said in a statement.

“As part of that practice, neither President Obama nor any White House official ever ordered surveillance on any U.S. citizen,” Lewis added. “Any suggestion otherwise is simply false.”

A White House spokeswoman on Sunday cited various news reports in explaining why Trump believes there was surveillance.
