Poll: Most disagree with Trump that media is ‘enemy’ of the people

A majority of voters disagree with President Trump’s assertion that certain news organization are the “enemy of the American people,” according to a new poll.

A Quinnipiac University poll found that 58 percent of voters disagree with Trump’s claim, while 39 percent agree.

Views of the media are largely divided along partisan lines.

{mosads}Eighty-six percent of Democratic voters disagree that certain media outlets are the “enemy,” but only 17 percent of Republican voters feel the same way.

The poll also finds that voters trust the media more than the president to “tell you the truth about important issues,” 53 percent to 37 percent.

Still, 53 percent of voters disapprove of the way the media has covered Trump. And 60 percent of respondents disapprove of the way Trump talks about the media.

Nearly 90 percent of respondents say it’s “very important” or “somewhat important” for the media to hold public officials accountable.

The poll was conducted from March 2 to 6 among 1,283 voters. The margin of error is 2.7 percentage points.

Last month, Trump went after the press, tweeting that the “FAKE NEWS media” was the “enemy of the American people.”

The president and his aides often hit on the media, accusing reporters of biased and dishonest coverage.
