Prosecutors investigating CIA leak to WikiLeaks: report
Prosecutors are investigating the leak of internal CIA documents published by WikiLeaks as part of a probe into the anti-secrecy publisher, Reuters reported Friday.
Prosecutors in Alexandria, Va., are reportedly looking into who leaked information about CIA techniques to surveil its intelligence targets.
{mosads}Investigators are looking into whether the leaks came from an intelligence contractor, but do not believe a foreign government was part of the leak.
Earlier this month, WikiLeaks published documents allegedly from the CIA on the agency’s hacking techniques. The organization said it plans to publish additional documents.
During last year’s presidential campaign, WikiLeaks published hacked emails from the Democratic National Committee (DNC) and Hillary Clinton’s campaign chairman, leading to a series of damaging leaks.
The U.S. intelligence community concluded that Russia hacked the emails, as part of a campaign to help elect President Trump. Moscow has denied doing so, and WikiLeaks has denied receiving the documents from Russia.
