Crowd chants ‘lock her up’ during Bannon speech

Former White House chief strategist Stephen Bannon on Wednesday reportedly lashed out at Hillary Clinton during a speech at a Republican fundraiser in Michigan, prompting chants of “lock her up” from the crowd.

“I knew we’d come to a ‘unity dinner’ and a Trump rally would break out,” Bannon said, according to multiple reporters on the scene.

Bannon reportedly criticized Clinton for “her journey into identity politics.”

Bannon, who also advised President Trump during the campaign, headlined an event Wednesday for the Macomb County GOP in Michigan. The state was crucial in securing Trump’s victory in the Electoral College one year ago. Macomb County went to Trump and Vice President Pence by nearly 50,000 thousand votes.

During the 2016 campaign, Trump and his allies frequently called for Clinton to be prosecuted for her actions as secretary of State. Trump has continued to suggest the Justice Department should investigate his former political opponent, drawing criticism from other lawmakers.

The chant “lock her up” was popular at Trump rallies during the campaign and has reemerged at Trump rallies since he took the White House.

Bannon left the White House in August and returned to Breitbart News, where he is chairman. He remains active in political campaigns and has pledged to fight the GOP establishment.
