Democratic Sen. Cory Booker (N.J.) says it’s “getting tedious” to react to every “outrageous” comment by President Trump.
Asked by The Hill what he thought of Trump’s comment that Democrats’ behavior was “treasonous” during his State of the Union address, Booker said, “it’s ridiculous.”
“I do not consider myself treasonous — it’s ridiculous. And to respond on a weekly basis to the outrageous things that the president of the United States says is getting tedious,” Booker said in an interview with The Hill on Tuesday.
Earlier in the day, White House aides characterized the president’s remark as a “tongue-in-cheek” comment because some Democrats refused to clap during his address.
“They were like death and un-American. Un-American. Somebody said, ‘treasonous.’ I mean, yeah, I guess, why not,” President Trump told a crowd of workers gathered to hear him speak in Cincinnati, Ohio, on Monday.
Republican Sen. John Kennedy (La.) told The Hill that he listened to Trump deliver the remarks, and figured the president was “half-joking.”
“The president’s entitled to his own opinion. I saw his remarks, I think he was sort of half-joking, but I will let the president explain his intentions,” Kennedy told The Hill.
He added that he didn’t think Trump “was serious about it.”
Democratic Sen. Richard Blumenthal (Conn.) said he doesn’t think its funny for the president to make such jokes. 
“Those remarks would be ludicrous and laughable if they came from someone other than the president of the United States. Treason is a crime punishable by death — nobody should joke about it,” Blumenthal told reporters.
