A handful of Rust Belt state Democrats are offering support for President Trump’s plan to impose tariffs on steel and aluminum imports.
“I’m going to tell you something, it is a national security threat,” Rep. Debbie Dingell (D-Mich.) told The Hill.
Rep. Tim Ryan (D-Ohio) said he is “generally supportive” of the president’s initial announcement.
He said cheap steel from China is hurting U.S producers and will make the U.S. dependent on foreign steel, which would hurt the nation’s defense.
