Protesters interrupt Spicer at Nixon Library appearance with chants of ‘shame on you’

Multiple protesters on Tuesday interrupted former White House press secretary Sean Spicer during an appearance in California, shouting “shame on you” and accusing him of lying.

Spicer was speaking at the Richard Nixon Presidential Library and Museum in Yorba Linda, Calif., to promote his new book, “The Briefing: Politics, The Press and The President,” which was released last week.

Video posted on Facebook shows multiple protesters shouting at Spicer as he begins speaking, with one demonstrator shouting, “We will not accept lying.”

Another, who was streaming the interactions live, stands up moments later and shouts, “We will not allow you to profit off of lying to the American people.”

“Shame on you,” the protester, who was posting the video for the group Unofficial: DNC, then yelled before being escorted out of the venue.

Spicer responded to the attacks by invoking a comment from Nixon, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

“You’re sitting there watching President Nixon during Vietnam, who said, ‘We can’t learn from each other until we stop shouting at each other,’ ” Spicer said.

The news outlet also noted that individuals in the crowd shouted “shame on you” back at the demonstrators.

The protests come as Spicer continues a nationwide tour to promote his memoir on his time working in the White House under President Trump. The book has drawn scrutiny based on his actions while working as the lead spokesman for Trump.

Spicer was interrupted by a protester last week who called him a “piece of garbage” during a book signing in New York.

“Hey Sean, you’re a real piece of garbage and I hope you look around and see all these empty seats,” a man shouted inside the Union Square Barnes & Noble bookstore. “And I hope you realize in even in New York City people will not come and pay to hear you speak.”
