Sen. Marsha Blackburn (R-Tenn.) and a group of GOP senators will hold a press conference on the Israel-Gaza conflict and the Biden administration’s handling of $6 billion in Iranian funds unfrozen as part of a prisoner exchange last month.
More than a dozen senators, including Blackburn, have called on the administration to refreeze the payment as the “official policy” of the U.S.
A Treasury official told House Democrats last week that the U.S. will block Iran’s access to the $6 billion, which is now being held in Qatar.
The senators urged the U.S. “to limit Iran’s ability to provide support to Hamas,” the Palestinian militant group responsible for the Oct. 7 attack against Israel. More than 1,300 people were killed in the attack, and 199 people were taken hostage by Hamas.
The event is set to begin at 11:15 a.m. EDT.
