Biden told aides ‘good sex’ makes for a long marriage: Book
After 47 years of romance with first lady Jill Biden, President Biden revealed his secret to a happy and long marriage: “good sex.”
In a new book, “American Woman – The Transformation of the Modern First Lady, from Hillary Clinton to Jill Biden,” New York Times White House correspondent Katie Rogers explores the president’s almost five-decade long marriage, according to multiple reports.
Rogers recounted how Biden, then a senator, decided not to launch a presidential challenge against then-Sen. John Kerry (D-Mass.) in 2004, thanks to his wife’s persuasion, according to Reuters. She wrote that Jill Biden entered a meeting with her husband and his aides sporting a halter top with the word “No” written on her stomach.
“Joe may have tamped down on his public bedroom declarations [in] winning the presidency, but he has joked to aides that ‘good sex’ is the key to a lasting and happy marriage, much to his wife’s chagrin,” Rogers notes in the book set to be released this week, according to reports.
The 276-page book goes on to highlight how the president’s love for his wife, and family, continued to have an influence on his political career.
“In 2006, Joe still seemed more interested in staying home with Jill than in running for the presidency,” Rogers writes, “and he said as much to a group of supporters that year: ‘I’d rather be at home making love to my wife while my children are asleep,’ he said of his interest in the job.”
While the comments have brought much attention to the incumbent president, this isn’t the first time he has spoken candidly about his relationship with the First Lady.
In the lead-up to the 2020 presidential election, Biden made an appearance on “Jimmy Kimmel Live!” in which he joked about sleeping with his wife.
Biden noticed Kimmel was wearing a New York Mets hat, prompting him to put on a Philadelphia Phillies cap.
“This is not the way to win voters, Mr. vice president,” Kimmel quipped.
“But it’s the way to be able to sleep with my wife,” Biden replied. “She’s a Philly girl. If I weren’t into the Phillies I’d be out of luck, man.”
It took five proposals from the president for the couple to finally tie the knot in 1977.
“I’ve been as patient as I know how to be, but this has got my Irish up. Either you decide to marry me or that’s it – I’m out. I’m not asking again,” Biden said on the fifth attempt, Rogers writes.
