Parts of Georgia, South Carolina preparing to evacuate ahead of Dorian

Parts of Georgia and South Carolina are preparing to evacuate ahead of Hurricane Dorian, which has strengthened into a Category 5 storm.

Georgia Gov. Brian Kemp (R) ordered evacuations starting at noon Monday for Bryan, Camden, Chatham, Glynn, Liberty, and McIntosh Counties. 

South Carolina Gov. Henry McMaster (R) ordered the evacuation of Colleton County.

{mosads}Several other counties will have government offices and schools closed on Monday.

The precautions come as Dorian approaches the continental United States.

The storm largely avoided Florida, but could now affect the southern portion of the Eastern seaboard.

The National Hurricane Center warned Sunday evening that strong winds are expected to affect the Carolinas and Georgia early this week.
