Ocasio-Cortez fires back at Ramaswamy over ‘they’re weird’ attacks on GOP

Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-N.Y.) on Monday doubled down on Democrats’ strategy of labeling the GOP presidential ticket as “weird,” after former GOP presidential candidate Vivek Ramaswamy criticized the argument as “dumb” and “juvenile.”

“Being obsessed with repressing women is goofy. Trying to watch what LGBTQ+ people do all the time is abnormal. Punishing people who don’t have biological offspring is creepy,” Ocasio-Cortez wrote on the social platform X.

“It’s an incel platform, dude. It’s SUPER weird. And people need to know,” she continued.

Ocasio-Cortez was responding to a post from Ramaswamy, who criticized Democrats on Sunday night for calling former President Trump and his running mate Sen. JD Vance (R-Ohio) “weird.”

“This whole ‘they’re weird’ argument from the Democrats is dumb & juvenile. This is a presidential election, not a high school prom queen contest. It’s also a tad ironic coming from the party that preaches ‘diversity & inclusion.’ Win on policy if you can, but cut the crap please,” Ramaswamy wrote on X.

The criticism comes as Vance faces scrutiny over remarks he made in the past, including for previously saying the country was run by “childless cat ladies.” He has also come under fire for a past remark advocating for higher taxes on Americans without children.

Democrats have seized on this attack line. Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-N.Y.) said Trump picking Vance as his running mate was “one of the best things” the former president has done for Democrats.

Sen. Brian Schatz (D-Hawaii) said on X on Sunday night, “Assigning extra votes to certain people based on the size of their family is weird. Banning library books is weird. Government being in people’s bedroom is weird. Government being in the exam room is weird. Saying ‘weird’ is not a schoolyard taunt – it’s an observation.”

Vance, this weekend, brushed off the attacks in a Fox News interview, when asked whether his feelings were hurt.

“No, not at all. It doesn’t hurt my feelings,” he said. “Look, the price of admission — meaning, the price of getting to serve the people of this country — is the Democrats are going to attack us with everything that they have. I think it’s an honor.”
