Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis (R) is holding a press conference Friday morning on the impacts and recovery efforts in the Sunshine State following devastation from Hurricane Milton.
His latest update comes just days after Milton made landfall as a Category 3 storm, hitting central Florida with deadly winds heavy rain and cutting off power for millions of residents. At least 10 people have been confirmed dead, according to authorities.
DeSantis and Federal Emergency Management Agency Administrator Deanne Criswell both suggested the damage could have been worse. The governor has been in touch with President Biden.
“The storm was significant, but thankfully, this was not the worst-case scenario,” DeSantis said Thursday.
The news conference is expected to begin at 11 a.m. EDT.
