Biden wins Georgia primary
Former Vice President Joe Biden won the Georgia primary Tuesday, continuing to rack up delegates on his way to being formally nominated as the Democratic Party’s presidential nominee.
Biden bested Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.), who suspended his campaign earlier this year. The former vice president received 73 percent of the vote compared with Sanders’s 15 percent with less than 1 percent of precincts reporting, according to The Associated Press.
Sanders endorsed Biden but will remain on primary ballots to rack up progressive delegates ahead of the Democratic Party’s convention in August.
Georgia will provide 105 pledged delegates. The state is set to be a battleground in November, with two Senate races and Biden looking to become the first Democratic presidential candidate to win it since 1992.
The Associated Press last week projected Biden had clinched more than the 1,991 delegates needed for the Democratic nomination.
