Activists project ‘Trump failed us’ onto Arizona mountain

A coalition of liberal activists in Arizona created a giant sign to blame President Trump for the number of COVID-19 deaths in the United States and projected their message on the side of a mountain.

Messages including “COVID deaths 224,601” and “Trump failed us” were projected in both English and Spanish on Camelback Mountain in Phoenix.

The sign was part of an effort by the groups Progress Arizona, Our Voice Our Vote Arizona, LUCHA, Mi Familia Vota and Por Nuestras Familias PAC, The Arizona Republic reported.

The signs were reportedly visible from Camelback and Camelhead roads in Phoenix.

“In these final days of the 2020 election, we are literally putting a spotlight on just how disastrous Donald Trump’s presidency has been for Arizona, and for America as a whole,”  Emily Kirkland, executive director of Progress Arizona, told The Arizona Republic.

President Trump won Arizona by 4 points in 2016, but polls there show him lagging behind Democratic nominee Joe Biden heading into the November election. Biden currently holds a 7.1 percentage point lead in the RealClearPolitics polling index.

Democrats are also looking to shore up support in a Senate battle in state, with Democrat Mark Kelly facing off against incumbent Sen. Martha McSally (R), who has attached herself closely to Trump. Kelly has held a slight edge in most polls conducted recently.

Trump and Biden clashed over the coronavirus response during their debate last week, with Biden pointing to the mounting death toll while Trump maintained, “We’re rounding the corner, it’s going away.”
