Ocasio-Cortez shares photo of new ‘squad’ on Capitol Hill
Congresswoman-elect Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-N.Y.) on Monday shared a photo captioned “squad” showing her seated with fellow Democratic Rep.-elects Rashida Tlaib (Mich.), Ilhan Omar (Minn.) and Ayanna Pressley (Mass.).
Tlaib and Pressley also posted pictures of the group of incoming lawmakers, with Tlaib labeling her post as “#DreamTeam in Congress” and Pressley adding the tag “#Changecantwait.”
The group of soon-to-be congresswomen were in D.C. for the Congressional Progressive Caucus orientation. Ocasio-Cortez described the event as “a pre-orientation for progressive members of Congress” in her Instagram post, according to a HuffPost report.
Last week, Ocasio-Cortez became the youngest woman in history to be elected to Congress. The self-described democratic socialist came to fame earlier this year after she stunned the nation in June when she toppled longtime Rep. Joseph Crowley (D-N.Y.) in a primary election.
Oman and Tlaib are the first two Muslim-American women to serve in Congress and Pressley, who was the first woman of color ever elected to the Boston City Council, is now the first black woman to ever have been elected to Congress from Massachusetts.
