First lady to fundraise with HBO exec
First lady Michelle Obama will headline a fundraiser next week at the Los Angeles home of HBO’s president of programming, Michael Lombardo, according to a report Wednesday in the Hollywood Reporter.
Lombardo, a longtime Obama fundraiser, was named by the president to the board of trustees at the Kennedy Center. In 2012, Lombardo hosted a similar event for President Obama’s reelection campaign at his home.
{mosads}The White House has increasingly leaned on Hollywood to raise cash ahead of the November midterm elections, with Democrats scrambling to retain control of the Senate.
On Wednesday, the president will attend a fundraiser at the home of director Robert Rodriguez, with actors including Jessica Alba, Demi Lovato, and Danny Trejo expected to make an appearance. Later this month, the president will also head to Los Angeles for an event hosted by “Scandal” creator Shonda Rhimes and actress Kerry Washington.
Tickets to the first lady’s event, billed as a roundtable discussion, will run $5,000 per person and benefit the Democratic National Committee.
The Hollywood Reporter also reported that the president will attend a July 24 fundraiser at the home of Live Nation president Michael Rapino.
According to the email invite for the $32,400-per-person event, that will be the president’s last trip to Los Angeles this year.
