Accused White House fence-jumper ruled incompetent to stand trial

A man who allegedly jumped the White House fence last week and was brought down by two Secret Service dogs was ruled incompetent to stand trial on Monday.

Dominic Adesanya, 23, will undergo more psychiatric testing and treatment before his next court date.

{mosads}Adesanya was arrested near the North Lawn of the White House last week. He was swarmed by agents after initially tangling with two Secret Service dogs, who were kicked and punched in the incident.

In court on Monday, he responded to the judge’s ruling with an outburst.

“Stop, you’re not gonna do this to me,” he yelled as the hearing was ending, according to CNN.

He then got up and moved away from the defense the table, before he was restrained by officers. He was heard shouting “Help me!” as he was taken out of the courtroom.

The judge in the case ordered that Adesanya undergo additional testing to determine his fitness for trial. His next court date has been set for late December.

His father told The Associated Press that his son was mentally ill and believed he was being watched through omnipresent cameras. 

The AP also reported that Adesanya had previously been arrested outside the White House and told an officer at the time he wanted cameras outside his house removed.

Adesanya is the second person in just over a month to be accused of fence-jumping at the presidential residence.

Omar Gonzalez, 42, made headlines earlier this year when he allegedly scaled the White House fence and entered the mansion before being stopped by Secret Service officers. That incident intensified criticism of the agency and led to the resignation of former director Julia Pierson.

Earlier this month, the judge in Gonzalez’s case ordered that he undergo a mental evaluation to determine his competency to stand trial. A preliminary evaluation found that he was not competent to stand trial.
