White House wasn’t aware of Democrat’s impending indictment during AF1 trip

The White House was not aware of an impending indictment on Rep. Chaka Fattah when the Pennsylvania Democrat traveled on Air Force One earlier this month with President Obama.

Fattah traveled with Obama and attended a July 14 speech the president gave in Philadelphia on criminal justice reform.

{mosads}White House spokesman Eric Schultz said the White House was not aware of a pending indictment. He otherwise declined to comment on the charges brought against Fattah on Wednesday.

“I’m not going to have anything for you on that,” he said.

Fattah, an 11-term Democrat, was indicted Wednesday on 29 federal counts, including bribery, money laundering, falsification of records and multiple counts of bank fraud, among other charges.

The charges surrounded his unsuccessful run for Philadelphia mayor in 2007.
