Obama jumps on Cubs bandwagon
President Obama is jumping on the Chicago Cubs bandwagon.
The president is a fan of the Windy City’s other team, the White Sox, which did not make this year’s Major League Baseball playoffs. So he’s pulling for the Sox’s North Side rivals to end their 106-year championship drought.
“With the Sox out, I’ll be rooting for the Cubs to win the Series,” Obama said told the Chicago Tribune. “They’re due. They’ve got great young players, and I’m a Maddon fan. That’s an official statement.”
The Cubs took a big step toward reaching the World Series Wednesday night, defeating the Pittsburgh Pirates in the National League wild card game.
But the Cubs face a big test against the St. Louis Cardinals in the National League Divisional Series, which begins Friday. Chicago’s longtime rival owns the best record in baseball.
