Inauguration festivities list

President Obama’s inauguration for a second term will include multiple events scattered across several days.

There are both official and unofficial festivities. The Hill has compiled a list of them from a variety of sources, including the official inauguration schedule, press releases, media reports and event websites. Keep in mind the events are invitation-only or ticket-only.

SATURDAY, JANUARY 19

• President Obama, first lady Michelle Obama, Vice President Biden, Jill Biden and various Cabinet members will participate in a National Day of Service at various locations throughout Washington. There will also be a Service Summit on the National Mall that begins at 9:30 a.m. Chelsea Clinton is the honorary chairwoman and will be at the Mall event along with actress Eva Longoria and Delaware Attorney General Beau Biden.

• Michelle Obama and Jill Biden will host a Kids’ Inaugural Concert at 6 p.m. at the Washington Convention Center.

SUNDAY, JANUARY 20

• Obama and Biden will visit Arlington National Cemetery to lay a wreath at the Tomb of the Unknown Solider.

•Biden is officially sworn in at the Naval Observatory at 
8:15 a.m.

• Obama is officially sworn in in the Blue Room of the White House at 11:55 a.m.

The Constitution states that presidential terms end at noon on Jan. 20. When that falls on a Sunday, it’s traditional for there to be a ceremonial swearing-in on Monday at the Capitol.

MONDAY, JANUARY 21

• The Swearing-In Ceremony on Capitol Hill begins at 11:30 a.m. 

Here is the order of events for the ceremony: There will be musical performances by the United States Marine Band; PS 22 in Staten Island, N.Y.; and Lee University Festival Choir from Cleveland, Tenn.

• Sen. Charles Schumer (D-N.Y.), the chairman of the Joint Congressional Committee on Inaugural Ceremonies (JCCIC), will give welcoming remarks. Myrlie Evers-Williams will give the invocation. The Brooklyn Tabernacle Choir will sing. Associate Supreme Court Justice Sonia Sotomayor will administer the oath of office to Biden. James Taylor will perform “America the Beautiful.” John Roberts, chief justice of the United States, will swear Obama in. Obama will give his Inaugural address. Kelly Clarkson will sing “My Country ’Tis of Thee.” Richard Blanco will read a poem. The Rev. Luis Leon of St. John’s Church will give the benediction and then Beyonce will sing the national anthem.

• After the ceremony, the Obamas, the Bidens, members of Congress and guests will have lunch in Statutory Hall in the Capitol building.

• After lunch, Obama will review the troops from the East Front of the Capitol.

• Then the Inaugural Parade begins around 2:35 p.m. The Obamas and Bidens will both participate. Its path goes down Pennsylvania Avenue, where there are viewing stands and bleachers. The parade will feature participants, floats and vehicles representing more than 58 groups.

• The Commander in Chief’s Inaugural Ball, honoring members of the military, begins at 6 p.m. at the Washington Convention Center.

• The Inaugural Ball, for Obama’s supporters, begins at 6:30 p.m. at the Washington Convention Center.

• The Kids’ Inaugural Concert on Saturday and official balls will feature appearances by Alicia Keys, Brad Paisley, the Far East Movement, members of the cast of “Glee,” John Legend, Katy Perry, Marc Anthony, Mindless Behavior, Nick Cannon, Smokey Robinson, the Soul Children of Chicago, Stevie Wonder, Usher and others to be announced.

TUESDAY, JANUARY 22

• The Obamas and the Bidens will participate in a National Prayer Service at the Washington National Cathedral at 10:30 a.m.

FRIDAY, JANUARY 18

• The Daily Download and Purple Nation Solutions hosts a panel discussion on “The Media and Beltway Gridlock” with CBS’s Bob Schieffer, MSNBC’s Michael Steele, Fox’s Lanny Davis and CNN’s Howard Kurtz. It begins at 8:30 a.m. at McCormick & Schmick’s.

• Williams Mullen hosts a reception at the Army and Navy Club at 5 p.m.

• Women in Congress reception at the Whittmore House at 6 p.m.

• The Latino Leaders Network hosts a “Tribute to Mayors” dinner at Smith & Wollensky at 6:30 p.m.

• Entrepreneur Inaugural Ball at the JW Marriott Hotel at 7 p.m.

SATURDAY, JANUARY 19

• California Inaugural Luncheon and Fashion Show at the Ritz Carlton Hotel at 11 a.m.

• Danny Glover and John Legend host a screening of “The House I Live In” at the Shiloh Baptist Church at 12:30 p.m.

• People for the American Way hosts an inaugural party at the Willard Hotel at 6 p.m.

• Kentucky Bluegrass Ball at the Marriott Wardman Park Hotel at 6:30 p.m.

• The Alaska State Society holds an inaugural reception at Sonoma at 6:30 p.m.

• Virgin Islands Association Inauguration Ball at the Crowne Plaza Hotel in Alexandria, Va., at 7 p.m.

• National Bar Association at the Smithsonian National Air and Space Museum at 7 p.m.

• Texas Black Tie & Boots Inaugural Ball at 7 p.m. at the Gaylord National Resort, National Harbor, Md.

• Oklahoma State Society Inaugural Gala at Clyde’s of Gallery Place at 7 p.m.

• Iowa State Society “First in the Nation Celebration” Inaugural Party at the Museum of Women in the Arts at 7:30 p.m.

• Chef Art Smith will host a late-night Chefs Ball at Art and Soul. Executive Chef Wes Morton will co-chair the event and five additional D.C. celebrity chefs will prepare late-night bites, with proceeds benefiting their charities of choice. It starts at 10:30 p.m.

SUNDAY, JANUARY 20

• Google is partnering with the Center for American Progress and Elle to host a brunch celebrating the inauguration and the record number of women serving in Congress. It will take place at the National Portrait Gallery and guests can drop in at any time and join in the Sunday morning tradition of brunch with friends, great coffee and a crossword puzzle.

• The Daily Beast Bipartisan Brunch takes place at 11 a.m. at Café Milano and features Tina Brown, Harvey Weinstein, Eva Longoria, Mark McKinnon and Pamela Thomas-Graham.

• Sens. Elizabeth Warren (D-Mass.) and Claire McCaskill (D-Mo.), Rep. Tulsi Gabbard (D-Hawaii), Health and Human Services Secretary Kathleen Sebelius and President of the Gay and Lesbian Victory Fund Chuck Wolfe speak at an EMILY’s List brunch at 11 a.m. at the Marriott Wardman Park Hotel.

• Sen. Al Franken (D-Minn.) holds a fundraiser for Franken MVPs with special guest Sen. Elizabeth Warren (D-Mass.) at the Willard Hotel at 11:30 a.m.

• The Artists & Athletes Alliance will be hosting a reception to honor ServiceNation at 6 p.m. at D.C. Coast.

• Florida Inaugural Ball at the Andrew Mellon Auditorium at 6 p.m.

• Planned Parenthood and Rock the Vote will host an inaugural party with a performance by band Delta Rae and a DJ set by legendary recording artist Q-Tip. It will be hosted by actors Tatyana Ali, Alexis Bledel, Aisha Tyler and Kate Walsh. It starts at 6 p.m. at the 9:30 Club.

• Hawaii State Society Inaugural Ball at the Renaissance Arlington Capitol View Hotel at 6 p.m.
