Obama to meet with ‘Gang of Eight’ senators to talk immigration
{mosads}Sens. Michael Bennet (D-Colo.), Charles Schumer (D-N.Y.), Dick Durbin (D-Ill.) and Robert Menendez (D-N.J.) will meet with Obama to update him on progress on crafting an immigration-reform bill, according to a Democratic aide.
The four Democratic senators, along with Sens. Jeff Flake (R-Ariz.), Lindsey Graham (R-S.C.), John McCain (R-Ariz.) and Marco Rubio (R-Fla.), unveiled a framework for passing an immigration-reform bill in late January.
It was unclear why Republican senators would not take part in the meeting with Obama.
The meeting on Wednesday is a day after the president’s State of the Union address, in which he is expected to address immigration reform. The president has made immigration reform one of the top priorities of his second term in office and has urged Congress to quickly come to an agreement on an immigration bill.
