Obama hits links at ‘organic’ golf course
President Obama on Wednesday hit the links at the country’s only “organic” golf course.
Obama is playing a round at the Vineyard Golf Club in Edgartown, Mass., which bills itself as “the most environmentally-sensitive golf course in the world.”
{mosads}Instead of traditional pesticides, groundskeepers use “bio-stimulants and composted fertilizers,” according to the course website. Nitrogen is used to strengthen the turf.
The club was founded in 2002 on a site situated between a state forest and a wildlife preserve. The course website says developers faced “one of the island’s toughest regulatory processes in recent memory.”
“Concern for the fragile island ecosystem was high and resulted in the course becoming among the most environmentally-sensitive ever built,” the website says.
Obama has played at the course on previous Martha’s Vineyard vacations.
On Wednesday, he’s playing with retired basketball stars Alonzo Mourning and Ray Allen as well as private equity investor Glenn Hutchins — all frequent golf partners of the president.
It’s the president’s third round of golf since he arrived on the secluded Massachusetts island on Saturday evening for his annual two-week family getaway.
He teed up with NBA stars Chris Paul and Stephen Curry on Sunday and Monday, respectively. The president skipped the course and went to the beach with his family on Tuesday.
