Obama didn’t press Putin on Super Bowl ring
Rhodes, a New York Jets fan, went on to rib the Patriots owner, noting that the team’s last championship came during the Bush administration.
“We’ll have to review whether we had any — heard anything from Mr. Kraft, because I’m certainly unaware of anything. Did he suggest it was in this White House or the previous? Because as a Jets fan, even though the Jets haven’t won since ’69, I know the Patriots haven’t won in a while either,” Rhodes quipped.
{mosads}”So I think it was under the Bush administration that this might have taken place. But we can check whether we ever heard from him.”
Kraft told the New York Post earlier this week that Putin had stolen the ring.
“I took out the ring and showed it to (Putin),” Kraft said. “And he put it on and he goes, ‘I can kill someone with this ring,’ I put my hand out and he put it in his pocket, and three KGB guys got around him and walked out.”
Kraft added that a White House staffer told him, “It would really be in the best interest of U.S.-Soviet relations if you meant to give the ring as a present.”
A spokesman for Putin has denied Kraft’s claim, saying the championship ring was given as a gift.
“I was standing 20 centimeters away from him and Mr. Putin and saw and heard how Mr. Kraft gave this ring as a gift,” Dmitry Peskov told CNN, calling the charge “weird.”
