North Dakota rep under consideration for Energy post
Rep. Kevin Cramer (R-N.D.) could be the next Energy secretary, the Bismark Tribune reported Monday night.
Cramer met with President-elect Donald Trump on Monday and said the discussion included a conversation about him possibly joining Trump’s Cabinet.
“I will tell you this: He was interested in talking to me about a possible Cabinet post, specifically secretary of energy,” Cramer told the paper.
He said Trump asked if Cramer would leave the House if offered an administration job.
“He kept saying, well, which one would you rather do?” Cramer said. “There’s strong pluses to both, and I’d be honored to do either one. I’d do both with enthusiasm and all the influence I have.”
Cramer met with Trump and Republican National Committee Chairman Reince Priebus, whom Trump tapped for White House chief of staff, as well as with Trump’s son-in-law, Jared Kushner.
“It was a nice conversation — that’s the way to put it,” Cramer said. “We talked about energy policy, basically, and we talked about the Cabinet.”
Cramer has been mentioned as a possible pick for weeks.
Trump met with fellow North Dakota lawmaker Sen. Heidi Heitkamp, a Democrat, on Friday.
