Trump Cabinet picks submit tax returns ahead of Senate hearings

Steven Mnuchin and Rep. Tom Price (R-Ga.), President-elect Donald Trump’s picks to run the Treasury and Health and Human Services departments, respectively, have both submitted their tax returns to the Senate Finance Committee, CNN reported Tuesday.

A committee source told CNN that Price and Mnuchin, the former CEO of Goldman Sachs, have submitted three years worth of tax returns as well as their confirmation questionnaires before their hearings.

The source also said that their Senate hearings will not be scheduled until “the bipartisan vetting process is complete.”

Several lawmakers have raised concerns about Price’s stock trading relating to several companies within the healthcare industry and are planning to question the congressman during the hearings.

The topic of tax returns is not new to the Trump team — throughout the 2016 campaign, Trump was harshly criticized for refusing to release his taxes, the first major party nominee in decades to withhold them. The president-elect pledged to release his tax returns, but said that he can not do so until the completion of an audit, a claim IRS officials deny.
